- Aora launches on sephora.com on July 17, 2026, as Sephora's first plastic-free makeup brand.
- Industry sources estimate $3–5M in first-year revenue at Sephora.
- Product range spans $22 (Admírame pencil eyeliner) to $65 (Mírame eye shadow palette); hero items priced at $28–$35.
- Founded December 2023 by Nour Tayara (ex-L'Oréal, 13 years) and Rodrigo Penafiel; U.S. DTC launch July 2025, Credo Beauty spring 2026.
- Prior Sephora plastic-free tests Superzero (2023, closed 2025) and Viori (2022, online-only) were both hair care, not color cosmetics.
Aora will go live on sephora.com on July 17, becoming the first plastic-free makeup brand to join Sephora's Clean + Planet Aware assortment. The Mexico-based color cosmetics label, launched by founder and CEO Nour Tayara alongside cofounder Rodrigo Penafiel in December 2023, lands in the prestige retailer's Clean + Planet Aware cohort exactly one year after its U.S. direct-to-consumer debut and four months after its first U.S. brick-and-mortar entry at Credo Beauty.
The Sephora placement is the most consequential commercial validation for a brand that packages every SKU in recyclable tin, metal, or wood. Industry sources peg first-year revenue at Sephora between $3 million and $5 million.
What is Aora launching and at what price?
Aora's Sephora.com range spans $22 to $65, anchored by three hero items:
- Inicia primer (hydrating/illuminating) — $35
- Acaríciame solid lip serum — $28
- Acaríciame Más Spicy Lip Serum — $30
- Admírame pencil eyeliners — $22 (entry price)
- Mírame eye shadow palette — $65 (top of range)
- Chile Carrier Charm accessory — $49
The lineup confirms a deliberate pivot away from sustainability-as-marketing. "Every study in the world will tell you that 80 percent of consumers are willing to pay more for sustainable products. No one is," Tayara said. "Once in front of the shelf, no one will pay more for a sustainable product. People will pay more for flavor, for quality, for performance."
Who is the founder, and why does the Sephora listing matter?
Tayara spent 13 years at L'Oréal in senior marketing and sustainable innovation roles between Paris and New York before relocating to Mexico. The Sephora partnership signals that plastic-free color cosmetics can clear Sephora's merchandising bar for performance, not just ethics.
Amy Abrams, Sephora U.S.'s senior vice president of makeup merchandising, framed the deal in those terms: "We're thrilled to partner with Aora and further our commitment to offering innovative, high-performance clean beauty brands to our clients….its celebration of maximalist makeup trends and reimagined sustainability practices will resonate deeply with our Sephora community."
Aora joins Clean + Planet Aware peers Saie, Mango People, and Caliray. The category fits the retailer's stated mix shift toward high-performance clean color.
What is the track record for plastic-free at Sephora?
Sephora has tried plastic-free adjacencies before, with mixed outcomes:
- Superzero (solid hair care): launched 2023, ceased operations 2025
- Viori (solid hair care): inducted 2022, still online-only at Sephora, no store entry
Both prior entries were hair care. Aora is the first color cosmetics test. Tayara called the deal "the ultimate validation" and added that Aora "doesn't give you those [stereotypical] signals of clean, of sustainable. That, for me, is the biggest win."
What pipeline and brand-building moves are next?
Tayara flagged upcoming plastic-free SKUs with "tiny retractable pieces" — mascara and brow pencils — formats that have historically been the hardest to deliver without plastic components. Credibility on those items will determine whether Aora can move beyond its current primer/lip/eye-shade core.
Brand activation will lean cultural, not just shelf. Aora supplied makeup for the performers of Bad Bunny's Super Bowl LX halftime show in February and most recently teamed with makeup artist Katey Denno on Palestinian actress Clara Khoury's look at the 2025 Oscars, where The Voice of Hind Rajab was nominated for best international feature film. Tayara plans further activations tied to awards moments.
For formulators, compliance teams, and buyers tracking plastic-free color, the next milestones to watch are Aora's mascara and brow pencil launches for proof that retractable plastic-free mechanics hold up under Sephora-level QA — and whether the brand clears Sephora's physical door threshold in a second phase, which Tayara declined to discuss on the record.
