- Sephora at M&S shop-in-shops launch spring 2027, targeting 100 UK locations
- Olaplex named Henkel's Christoph Kaul CEO after the $1.4 billion acquisition; Boots, Space NK and NUXE also changed chief executives in September
- THG revenue rose 7.2% to £828.7 million for the six months to 30 June, beating 6.5% guidance on K-beauty demand and new brand launches
Marks & Spencer and Sephora will roll out Sephora at M&S shop-in-shops in selected stores and on M&S.com from spring 2027, with a stated ambition to reach 100 UK locations. The deal puts prestige assortments, supported by specialist in-store beauty teams, onto high streets and retail parks — and gives Sephora distribution well beyond its own stores and London boutiques. For buyers and brand managers, it signals that prestige shelf space in the UK is about to widen sharply outside London, tightening competition for mid-market retailers without a comparable prestige anchor.
The partnership anchored a September packed with ownership, leadership and distribution news.
Leadership turnover at the top of UK beauty retail
Boots installed Alex Baldock, the former Currys chief, as Chief Executive on 2 September, taking over from Anthony Hemmerdinger as the retailer expands its brand portfolio and weighs its ownership options. Baldock had been confirmed in the role in May.
Space NK followed on 13 September: CEO Andy Lightfoot stepped down, with Chief Marketing Officer Emma Simpson-Scott — seven and a half years on the leadership team — promoted to the top job. Lightfoot had joined as Global Digital Director in 2016 and led the retailer as CEO from April 2019. An internal promotion at a retailer adding brands at pace suggests continuity in the curation-led strategy Space NK has run.
Boots also launched its first major campaign under new CMO Charlotte Lock. "Give It Some Boots" runs over an eight-week national rollout across broadcast, digital, social and stores, shifting messaging from product categories toward customer missions and needs — a repositioning suppliers will feel in how their products are framed at shelf and in media.
Olaplex enters the Henkel era
Olaplex appointed Henkel executive Christoph Kaul as CEO, succeeding Amanda Baldwin, after Henkel completed its $1.4 billion acquisition of the premium haircare brand. Kaul brings professional salon and transformation experience. The appointment opens a new integration phase that salon channel buyers should watch closely for range and pricing decisions.
Estée Lauder reshaped its luxury beauty leadership ahead of Sandra Main's retirement as Global Brand President, La Mer and Skin Care Brands. Justin Boximity's colleague Justin Boxford takes an expanded luxury portfolio, while Erica Kwok moves into a senior leadership role at the flagship Estée Lauder brand.
NUXE named Christine Delfaut-Sara CEO from 1 October 2026, succeeding Muriel Koch. Delfaut-Sara joined the French brand as Deputy General Manager responsible for brand strategy in 2019.
Supergoop created its first Chief Commercial Officer role, appointing Jamie Parker, who left Coty where he had become General Manager of its US Consumer Beauty division in October 2025.
Fragrance consolidation
Middle East-based Extravaganza Beauty fully acquired British haute perfumery house ROJA London, with stated focus on international distribution and product development. Audrey Minard stays as Global CEO; founder Roja Dove moves into consultancy. British fragrance brand Vyrao was acquired by Tresalis, a new beauty business backed by German investment firm Athos — its strategy for the brand remains to be seen.
Distribution deals reshape UK shelf space
Space NK had a busy month beyond the CEO change. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter's Cécred entered international physical retail exclusively through the retailer from 22 September, across all 90 UK and Ireland stores and online, with four collections plus a first fragrance-focused product. US hand and body care brand Touchland followed on 29 September with 18 products across the full UK estate and website — its most ambitious international expansion to date.
Saie makes its UK and European physical retail debut at Sephora UK on 6 October with dedicated two-bay spaces; Cult Beauty had launched the brand exclusively online in the UK in 2020. Australian skincare brand Wrinkles Schminkles secured its first UK retail partnership in more than 60 Boots stores across the UK and Ireland plus online. Irish brand Poco Beauty launched exclusively with Selfridges, online and across all four stores in London, Manchester and Birmingham, following its UK direct-to-consumer site in June.
Pureseoul brought accessible K-beauty to Primark through an exclusive K-Beauty Mini Mart, spanning skincare, sun protection, masks and colour cosmetics — diffusion lines from established Korean companies, at lower prices, leveraging parent-brand technology.
Numbers worth noting
THG reported a 7.2% revenue increase to £828.7 million for the six months ended 30 June, ahead of its 6.5% guidance, with the owner of Cult Beauty and Lookfantastic crediting new brand launches and K-beauty demand for customer acquisition. Victoria Beckham's fashion and beauty business recorded an operating profit for the first time in its 18-year history — it entered beauty in 2019 — a turnaround after years of losses and significant debt.
Superdrug reopened its refurbished Merry Hill store in the West Midlands as the largest site in its UK estate at 12,831 sq ft, creating 15 permanent jobs plus 10 seasonal roles for Christmas, as part of plans to open 30 UK stores in 2026. Molton Brown, owned by Kao, opened its first UK Scent Pavilion at Bluewater in Kent, a new format built around its 'Cleanse. Wear. Live.' positioning with three distinct environments.
Product and formulation notes
Skin Rocks launched a new PLUS category centred on barrier care, starting with The Support Mask, while expanding into Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Poland exclusively with Douglas. Nip+Fab introduced The Fix, a three-product system for consumers aged 30 and over that commits to disclosing ingredient levels, testing reports and the costs behind its pricing — a transparency play aimed at shoppers sceptical of skincare claims. Designer Bella Freud debuted in beauty with Glamorama at Boots, spanning lip oils, hand care, hair accessories, a compact mirror and a fragrance spray.
Skincare brand Faace was officially sold after a lengthy search; founder Jasmine Wicks-Stephens confirmed on 15 September via Substack that agreements had been signed the previous week. Kendall Jenner took an equity stake in UK functional drinks brand TRIP and fronted its global campaign from 8 September; financial terms were not disclosed.
The next data points to watch: the first Sephora at M&S sites named ahead of the spring 2027 launch, Henkel's first integration moves at Olaplex under Kaul, and Saie's UK performance after its 6 October Sephora debut.
