Coty has secured a 40-year extension of the Marc Jacobs Beauty license with WHP Global and G-III Apparel Group, the fashion brand’s co-owners. The agreement makes Marc Jacobs a long-horizon asset for Coty, which calls it “one of its core brands” in its prestige portfolio.

Coty said the four-decade extension will enable it to “accelerate the global growth” of Marc Jacobs Beauty across categories and markets. The announcement does not disclose the financial terms, manufacturing commitments or product-level investment schedule behind that promise.

What does the 40-year term change for product development?

For brand, product and procurement teams, the practical change is continuity of access. A 40-year term lowers the risk of a near-term license reset and gives Coty, WHP Global and G-III a basis to align range development and market launches over a much longer period.

Regulatory teams have no new filing deadline or reformulation milestone disclosed in the announcement. Buyers should also separate the license term from supply assurance: the announcement sets no volume, territory or exclusivity commitments.

It also gives no product-level investment schedule, manufacturing allocation or safety-dossier timetable. Those omissions do not alter the headline term, but they leave formulators and distributors without the volume and compliance parameters needed to turn that term into firm launch plans.

What commercial base sits behind the renewal?

More than two decades of trading history underpins the renewal. Coty first partnered with Marc Jacobs in 2003, helping to establish several fragrance pillars:

  • Daisy
  • Daisy Wild
  • Perfect

Those fragrances now sit within the top 10 to 15 prestige female fragrances in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. That position gives the renewed license an established commercial base, although the announcement provides no sales values, market shares or growth rates for those markets.

How is the make-up relaunch positioned?

Coty also led the revival of the discontinued Marc Jacobs Beauty make-up line this year. The new collection launched on 28 May, and the company claimed it had an “outstanding start” and was “already exceeding targets”.

The collection’s concept, “joyride sensoriality”, combines surprising textures, tactile finishes, bold colours and formulas designed to be played with. The announcement names no hero shades, formulations, prices or market rollout schedule, leaving product developers and buyers to assess the proposition from positioning rather than technical specifications.

Retail buyers should treat the target claim as company commentary, not a disclosed sales figure. No revenue, unit, market-size or profitability numbers accompany the launch update.

Markus Strobel, Executive Chairman and Interim CEO, said:

“Marc Jacobs is one of the great creative names in fashion, and we are proud of what we have built together over more than two decades.

“This extension is a powerful testament to Coty’s position as a partner of choice for the world’s leading luxury fashion and lifestyle brands.

“We look forward to building on this successful partnership and shaping the next chapter of Marc Jacobs Beauty.”

What do the Sephora rankings tell buyers?

The announcement supplies retailer rankings as its clearest external performance marker:

  • At Sephora in the UK and Australia/New Zealand, Marc Jacobs Beauty ranks among the top 20 make-up brands.
  • At Sephora US, its eyeliners and eyeshadows sit within the top five.

These positions signal category visibility across several markets and product traction in the US eye segment. For buyers, they offer a current demand signal rather than a forecast; the announcement gives no sales movement, units, market share or period-on-period growth behind the rankings.

Procurement teams can use the placements to frame near-term demand discussions with Sephora, but they cannot infer guaranteed allocations from a ranking. The same caution applies to forecasts of wider distribution: the 40-year license secures the brand relationship, not a stated volume or launch commitment.

Nor do the rankings establish market leadership outside Sephora. They show performance within one retailer’s UK, Australia/New Zealand and US listings, not a complete measure across the wider prestige beauty market.

Yehuda Shmidman, founder, Chairman and CEO of WHP Global, said:

“Marc Jacobs is a powerful global brand with tremendous momentum and opportunity ahead.

“Beauty is an important part of the brand’s connection with consumers, and Coty has been instrumental in building Marc Jacobs’ fragrance business and relaunching Marc Jacobs Beauty.

“We look forward to continuing this partnership and unlocking new opportunities for Marc Jacobs.”

Shmidman’s statement puts consumer connection at the center of the rationale, while Strobel emphasizes the partnership’s longevity and Coty’s role with luxury brands. The announcement does not quantify the momentum, assign category or market priorities, or disclose the value of the renewed license.

What should product, compliance and procurement teams watch next?\n

The first checkpoint is whether the 28 May collection holds its early Sephora positions once post-launch trading data mature. Coty has not supplied a future launch calendar, sales target or investment figure, so the next meaningful disclosures would be market rollouts, category extensions and retailer performance.

Compliance and procurement teams should watch the product-level records when they appear: ingredient listings, safety documentation, launch markets and supply commitments. None appears in this announcement, which confirms rights and strategic intent rather than operational detail.

The license fixes the long-term commercial frame; sustained Sephora rankings and disclosed market launches will determine whether the 28 May relaunch converts early momentum into durable growth.
